Practical guides for navigating complex UK systems,
grounded in lived experience

Clear, honest resources shaped by many years of supporting a loved one after a life-changing accident and diagnosis.

These resources are created by a family who has had to learn, over time, how complex systems really work. They bring together personal experience and publicly available information to help others feel less overwhelmed and better prepared.

Over the years, we’ve had to navigate a wide range of systems, often with little guidance and a great deal of uncertainty.

While Navigating Reality will gradually grow to reflect more of those experiences, our current focus is on NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) — particularly helping families prepare for the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) assessment meeting incorporating the

Decision Support Tool (DST), where clarity and preparation can make a real difference.

Current Areas of Focus:

NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC)

If you’re completely new to care funding, you may find it helpful to start with our free Understanding Care Funding guide. It provides a clear overview of the basics and how funding decisions are made.

Why do CHC outcomes differ?

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) operates as a judgement-based system.

I’ve set out a diagram to show where key interpretation points sit within the process.

Our resources do not provide professional, medical, legal or financial advice.

Support Group:

Some families also find it helpful to connect with others going through similar experiences.

Our private Facebook group offers calm, peer support alongside the tools.
